Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Handnotes ("we", "us") for using Handnotes at handnotes.ai. By creating an account you accept them, together with the Privacy Policy and the academic integrity and acceptable use statement.
The service
Handnotes writes study notes in your own handwriting. You teach it your handwriting, attach material such as an assignment, your notes or lecture slides, and it uses an AI model to write worked notes, which you can edit, rewrite section by section and export as PDF, SVG or PNG.
Use it honestly
Handnotes is a study tool: for revising, for working through problems, and for making notes you understand. You are responsible for following your school's or institution's rules on academic integrity. Do not submit work produced with Handnotes as your own where that is not allowed. Our full position is in the academic integrity and acceptable use statement, which is part of these terms.
You also agree not to: break the law with it; upload material you have no right to use; try to get around usage limits, payment, email confirmation or security; share an account or sign up with made-up addresses to get more free notes; put a load on the service that gets in other people's way; or use it to harm others.
AI output
Notes are produced by an AI model and can contain mistakes, in the working as much as in the answer. Check anything that matters. We do not guarantee that notes are correct, complete or suitable for any purpose.
Your content
You keep all rights to the material you upload, your handwriting and your notes. You give us permission to store and process them only to run the service for you, which includes sending the material you attach to our AI provider to write the notes, as the Privacy Policy explains. You can export or delete them at any time. We do not use your content to train AI models.
Accounts
Keep your password safe; you are responsible for what happens in your account. One account per person. You must be at least 13 years old (or the age at which you may agree to terms like these where you live) to use Handnotes.
Plans and payment
Handnotes is currently offered without payment. If we introduce paid plans, we will say so here and in the app.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Handnotes running but do not promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features; if we shut the service down we will give you at least 30 days to export your notes.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Account settings (cancel a subscription first, so you are not billed again). We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the acceptable use statement; where we do, we will tell you by email, and you can still ask us for a copy of your data.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, the service is provided "as is", and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that consumer protection law gives you and that cannot be waived.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.
Changes to these terms
We will post any change here and update the date above; for significant changes we will email you before they take effect.
